In a rare gesture, two members of the Teller County Sheriff’s Department, Jeffery Roepke and Kelsey Johnson, received special life saving awards lifesaving’s commissioners meeting for their actions in saving Marina Paradis of Colorado Springs, left, following a near fatal car accident she and her friend  incurred in 2018 during a drive in Teller County. The sheriff officers’ actions in applying a tourniquet device to Marina most likely saved her life, when her vehicle crashed into a guard rail on Hwy 24 in the Divide area after completely spinning. Marina, 19, suffered significant injuries to her leg, which got caught in the guard rail. According to Marina, the sheriff officers’ actions basically saved her life. Otherwise, she most likely would have bleed to death, according to authorities. The sheriff officer actions were lauded last week by Teller County Sheriff Jason Mikesell. These types of awards are extremely rare and often only occur once a year, or once every several years.
